Effect of Salinity on the Performance of Coconut Seedlings in Two Contrasting Soils
نویسندگان
چکیده
Coconut seedlings were raised in poly-bags in two contrasting soils and common salt was applied at the rate of 0, 2 , 4 , 6, 8, 10 and 12 g per seedling. The study was carried out from June 1982 to July 1983 and December 1982 to November 1983. The seedlings were quite tolerant of salination. Dry matter accumulated in plant parts were in the order, leaves>roots>stem. Uptake of applied nutrients was very high compared with control treatments in both experiments; it was higher for Na than for CI. Uptake of nutrients was higher in the maritime than in the forest soil, showing evidence of ecological adaptation of the seedlings to the maritime environment in which they are traditionally grown in Nigeria.

Solubility and bioavailability of heavy metals are important with respect to theirtoxicity. The discharge of municipal wastewater in soil and surface waters can affectbioavailability and mobility of heavy metals in soils and sediments. Salinity is one of the most important environmental stresses which affect the growth of plants. Most of the plants are sensitive to salt stress at the seedling stage, so the growth of them in salt-water accompanies with problems. Various agronomic and physiological practices (treatments) are applied to minimize the adverse effects of salinity on plant growth and using of plant growth regulator ...

Effects of the mycorrhizal fungus Glomus intraradices on establishment of subterranean clover (Trifolium subterraneum L.) seedlings in saline conditions were studied in a glasshouse experiment. Growth and nutrient uptake were determined 10, 20 and 30 days after transplanting of mycorrhizal and nonmycorrhizal matched seedlings into soils with five different levels of salinity. Mycorrhizal plants...

Extended abstract 1- Introduction Gypsum, sulfuric acid, and sulfur are used to improve saline and sodic soils. In some cases, animal manures are also used, which varies according to environmental conditions and soil type (Jesus et al., 2019). Industrial gypsum is often used to modify saline and sodic soils due to electrolyte maintenance, physical and hydraulic properties (Keren, 1996), low c...

To find the protective role of exogenous nitric oxide (NO) on salinity-stressed rice seedlings, a CRD-based factorial experiment with three replications was conducted in Agronomy Laboratory of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, University of Guilan, in 2012. The experimental design consisted of healthy and vigorous seedlings of two rice cultivars, Khazar and Goohar, the last already known as...
